Data Science & AI
Production AI/ML operationalized inside federal mission workflows.
NLT data scientists build and operationalize AI/ML models inside production federal disaster-response workflows, statistical programs, public health collaborations, and decision-support tools. The team works across the full lifecycle — data engineering, model development, validation, deployment, and operations. Not pilots. Live decision support.

What We Deliver
- ✓AI/ML model development and validation
- ✓Predictive analytics for natural hazards and economic indicators
- ✓Disclosure avoidance and statistical privacy engineering
- ✓Real-time data fusion from satellite, sensor, and administrative sources
- ✓Decision-support dashboards and alerting platforms
Differentiator
AI/ML algorithms operationalized inside production federal workflows — flood and earthquake models running live in FEMA disaster response, privacy engineering inside Census statistical products, and predictive health intelligence with international organizations. Not pilots. Live decision support running in agencies today.

Past Performance
Production AI/ML — Named Engagements
FEMA — Forecasted Flood Depth Grid Model
FEMA · 2017–present · Active
NLT designed and deployed the Forecasted Flood Depth Grid Model — an AI/ML system that predicts inundation extent and structural damages by analyzing real-time stream and tide gauge readings, national elevation data, and structures data. Enhanced in 2021 with ICEYE satellite-based Synthetic-Aperture Radar (SAR) impact analytics for near-real-time damage assessment.
FEMA — Earthquake Exposure & Damage Assessment Model
FEMA · 2018–present · Active
Production AI model that predicts exposure and estimates damages to structures based on real-time earthquake readings, structures and land-use data, damage functions, and social vulnerability measures. Now integrated into the nltSeismicMapper platform.
U.S. Census Bureau — CED Disclosure Avoidance Engineering
Census Center for Enterprise Disclosure · 2022–present
Engineering and research support for advanced disclosure avoidance methods — protecting individual privacy in statistical data products while preserving analytical utility. One of the two largest single awards in NLT history, captured in the same year as the CES Collaboration Project.
DIRE — Dengue & Malaria Predictive Modeling
DIRE Project · built with UC San Diego · UNICEF & university partners
NLT data scientists model dengue and malaria risk in the DIRE Project (deployed as nltIMPACT-GlobalHealth), built on nltIMPACT with UC San Diego, in user and research partnership with UNICEF and university partners, funded by the Wellcome Trust and operationalizing primary research from ESA.
