The White House today announced a proposal to reorganize a number of federal agencies to better meet the economic and business needs of the nation and improve efficiency. The proposal would merge several commerce and trade agencies — including the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the Small Business Administration (SBA), the Export-Import Bank, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, and the Trade and Development Agency. It would also move NOAA to the Department of the Interior. In the public discussion sure to follow, it will be interesting for geographers and GIS practitioners to consider the possible changes, impacts, and improvements to geospatial-related efforts that could result from this reform.
