New Light Technologies (NLT) Chief Scientist has been selected to edit an upcoming special issue of Remote Sensing journal, a leading peer-reviewed publication in the geoscience field. NLT's Chief Scientist will work alongside co-editors from the World Bank and Google to further the industry conversation on measuring developing countries' progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The issue will bring together novel methods and studies focusing specifically on remotely sensed measurement techniques to measure the SDGs. Authors are invited to submit groundbreaking work related to different frameworks for quantifying SDG progress. The editing team hopes to showcase robust methods and tools that will improve the timeliness, coverage, and quality of SDG-related data. Remote Sensing is an Open Access journal, which means the collection of papers published in this special issue will reach many organizations beyond the academic world — professional practitioners, students, industry solution and platform providers, the public sector, and, most importantly, the communities themselves.
"This special issue in Remote Sensing is a unique opportunity to bring together novel and groundbreaking research projects and applications that utilize remotely sensed techniques to help countries achieve peace and prosperity," says NLT's Chief Scientist. "Each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals has a spatial dimension that can be measured and assessed by means of remotely sensed measurements. It is our hope that this Special Issue will stimulate rigorous research and development of methodologies and applications that could help countries monitor their progress toward achieving the SDGs."
The editing team brings together representatives from New Light Technologies, the World Bank's Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery, Google Earth Engine, and the World Bank's Development Economics Data Group.
